Music Playlists Everyone Should Have

Music Playlists Everyone Should Have

As a huge fan of music, I definitely have my fair share of playlists. My Dad has recently joined Spotify, and I found myself recommending lots of different types of music to him, as well as the different playlists he should have. I thought I would do the same over on my blog. I tend to listen to music in playlists rather than albums, and so having the right playlists for most moods makes listening to music super easy. So, here are the playlists that I think everyone should have – with a list of a few songs from each.

I have a playlist on Spotify called ‘EVE’ and this is full of my all-time favourite songs and is getting pretty long at this point haha! This is one I listen to most often and I love having a place for all of my favourite music to be kept. It also makes for an easy option when I’m out and about – just shuffle that playlist and I am guaranteed to like all of the songs.

1. Champagne Supernova – Oasis
2. Crazy Little Thing Called Love – Queen
3. The Opener – Courteeners
4. Ultralight Beam – Kanye West
5. All The Things That I’ve Done – The Killers
6. That’s Entertainment – The Jam

(By the way, narrowing this down to 6 was near impossible, so I just shuffled the first 6 to come up haha!)

Sometimes I am in the mood to listen to some really chill songs – usually when I am tired. So having a playlist of the most relaxing songs makes it convenient to find the perfect song to play when I want to unwind.

1. Sleep is a Rose – RHODES
2. Patience – Guns N’ Roses
3. She’s Always A Woman – Billy Joel
4. 7 (Acoustic) – Catfish and the Bottlemen
5. Mama, You’ve Been On My Mind – Bob Dylan
6. Ooh La La – Faces

Just as I like to have music to relax, I equally like to have music for when I am in a super happy mood and want songs to lift my mood more. This is when my ‘HAPPY’ playlist comes in handy. I also like to have this on when I’m with friends or when I’m in the car.

1. Nice For What – Drake
2. Are You Gonna Be My Girl – Jet
3. Common Man – Caamp
4. Master Blaster (Jammin) – Stevie Wonder
5. Waterfall – Stone Roses
6. I’m Your Man – Wham!

• GYM •

Listening to music in the gym is pretty much all that keeps me motivated to keep exercising haha! I love finding new places to listen to music, and a gym is a place that I can do that – which is why I don’t mind going that much. Having music in the gym 100% makes it more enjoyable.

1. Bitch Better Have My Money – Rihanna
2. Respect – Aretha Franklin
3. Man! I Feel Like A Woman – Shania Twain
4. Fallowfield Hillbilly – Courteeners
5. Can’t Stop – Red Hot Chilli Peppers
6. Faith – George Michael

This is a recent addition to my playlists, but one of my favourites. I love listening to music I used to listen to when I was younger (whether that be 2 years ago or 10) and again it’s a fun one to put on when friends are around.

1. Caravan of Love – The Housemartins
2. Chelsea Dagger – The Fratellis
3. Mr Brightside – The Killers
4. Addicted To You – Avicii
5. Let’s Get It On – Marvin Gaye
6. Gone – Kanye West

Obviously, this is a very ‘one time of year’ playlist but I think its key to have. I love Christmas so much and am always playing Christmas music as early as I can get away with it. It’s just so happy and I love that it’s the same songs every year! I will share all of my Christmas playlist in December on my blog, but for now here is a snippet.

1. Fairytale Of New York – The Pogues (Ft. Kirsty MacColl)
2. All I Want For Christmas Is You – Mariah Carey
3. Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town – Bruce Springsteen
4. Do They Know It’s Christmas? – Band Aid
5. Step Into Christmas – Elton John
6. Blue Christmas – Elvis Presley

I mean this one is very individual to me - having Irish family - but it's not to say that if you're not Irish you shouldn't have playlists full of music from Ireland - everyone should! I have been listening to these songs with family since I can remember, and I love listening to my Irish playlist.

1. Sally MacLennane - The Pogues
2. Scorn Not His Simplicity - Luke Kelly
3. If I Ever Leave This World Alive - Flogging Molly
4. Toss The Feather (MTV Unplugged Version) - The Corrs
5. I Useta Lover - The Saw Doctors
6. The Irish Rover - The Dubliners and The Pogues

These playlists are ones I listen to constantly – excluding the Christmas Playlist of course, which is pretty seasonal. I love all of these playlists and am always adding to them. I love finding new songs and having the right playlists to add them to.

I would love to know in the comments – what playlists do you think everyone should have? What are your favourite playlists that you have?

  1. Hmmm, I listen to a lot of music and don't have a specific playlist as my mood changes. However, I do like the Gym playlist as it contains many great songs.

I see that you are The Killers fan too!

  4. Many years ago, I had a college friend who was an evangelizing devotee of the abstract painter Marc Rothko. I remember her gushing over a catalog of Rothko's work, while I was thinking that I must be aesthetically challenged; I just didn't "get" it. https://spotistar.com/buy-soundcloud-followers/

  5. Now, the Elvis Presley crowd may not favor this comparison due to Eminem's often distasteful lyrics, but there are definitely similarities that the rapper has even hinted to in one of his own songs. royalty free background music
