How I Overcome A Creative Block

How I Overcome A Creative Block

A few days ago, I sat down to do my usual content planning session. I was aiming to plan a couple of videos and blog posts for the coming weeks, and maybe a few IGTV’s as well. For some reason, I found myself lacking inspiration for content ideas. This is something that can happen every now and then for me and there often isn’t really any specific reason. When this happens, there are a few things that I personally like to do to overcome a creative block, and so I thought I would share them with you today.

Stepping back and taking the pressure away

Often, when I am experiencing a creative block, I might feel I want to sit at a laptop until I come up with an idea. However, the first thing that I try to remind myself is to step back from this and instead give myself more space and time to be organically creative. Taking the pressure away from having to come up with content ideas often means that there is more room for ideas to flow naturally.

Something that can be super helpful is to make a mind-map of ideas. Mind-maps are a great way of visualising topic areas and general themes and they don’t necessarily have to be really specific (but of course can be if an idea comes to mind). I find that mind-maps can be a really good space for ideas to grow and a great tool to be able to refer back to in coming up with content ideas.

Carrying a notebook

Another thing that I find helpful is to carry a notebook and pen with me wherever I go. Sometimes I can be on a walk with the dogs or doing some shopping, and an idea might come to mind for content. Having a notebook to jot these down in is great because it means that whenever and wherever inspiration may naturally come about, there is a place for me to keep my ideas. This notebook can then become a great tool to look back on to find inspiration.
