A Week of Self-Care

Taking time to look after ourselves is so important. I am a firm believer that each day we should find time to do at least one thing (however big or small) for our minds, to help us de-stress and relax during our day-to-day life. I think it’s important to have little things planned in for our week to look forward to and to make sure we take time for ourselves. In this blog post I am going to share how a week of self-care would look for me in the hopes that it would give others an idea of things that we can do to de-stress and focus on ourselves.

Spending Time With Friends

On the first day of the week I would suggest spending time with friends and loved ones. Having something fun planned in with your friends to look forward to at the end of the day can be a really nice way of relaxing after our first day back at work/school/uni. Also, being able to chat through your day with friends as well as having a nice time with people you love can be a great way of de-stressing and disconnecting from our working day to relax into the evening.

Pamper Evening

A pamper evening is a great way to look after ourselves. Whether you have a spare half hour or a spare 2 hours in an evening, there is always time to have a pamper. In a pamper evening, I love to have a bath, put on my comfiest PJs and listen to my favourite music/podcasts. Giving ourselves time to unwind and switch off at the end of the day can be a really great way of caring for ourselves.

Movie Night

Movie nights are always fun. I love grabbing my favourite snacks, making a cup of tea and sitting down to watch my favourite film. As well as picking a film, you could also start a new series – I would 100% recommend This Is Us as a new series if you haven’t already seen it. Watching our favourite film or TV series can be a lovely way of getting cosy into the evening and putting time aside to watch something we love.

Meditation

Meditation is something that I would always recommend for self-care. There are so many amazing apps out there for guided meditation – including Calm and Headspace – which I find to be so helpful. Meditation is one of my favourite ways to switch off and wind down. I also find that meditation is great to do if you have struggle sleeping. Guided meditations can be so helpful to relax our mind so that we can have a better night’s sleep.

Learn a New Skill

Taking up a new hobby and learning a new skill is a great thing to do. Whether it be painting, learning the guitar or taking up an evening class, learning something new can give us an exciting new focus and skill. It can also be so much fun to find a new hobby that you love and learning a new skill is something I would definitely recommend.

Volunteering

Volunteering is something that can be so good for not only others but ourselves. The idea of helping other people as a way of helping ourselves is something I love. Helping our community and contributing to the good of others is such a positive thing to do in our week and can make us feel great about the fact that we have done something to help someone else.

Go For a Walk

Finally, going for a walk is something that I would highly recommend in terms of our self-care. Light exercise is so good for our minds and is a great way to de-stress and switch off. Going for a walk is also good for getting out in the fresh air and appreciating what is around us. Taking time out for ourselves to do light exercise is something that is really beneficial for our self-care.

Self-care is so important and giving ourselves time to de-stress during our day-to-day life is something that is so beneficial to do.

I would love to know in the comments; what are your favourite things to do in a week for your self-care?

Comments

  1. I wholeheartedly agree that self-care is an important practice, it’s too easy to get overwhelmed and not look after yourself properly. I personally enjoy going on walks so to be “one with nature” for a little while, I find that the cold fresh air does wonders for de-stressing.

    Great post!
