Music Monthly Favourites | April 2018

I am always on the lookout for new music; I love finding songs and bands that I have never heard of that I absolutely love.  So far this year, I have found lots of new songs that I have added to my playlist – I have one big playlist that I keep of all my favourite songs ever, so new songs I love almost automatically get added to there so that I don’t forget them. A lot of these songs are ones that have been very popular, it is just now that they have made their way onto my big playlist.

1.     All These Things That I Have Done -The Killers

My Dad is the one who recommended this song to me. He has a really good taste in music and in our house, there is always music on – especially when we are clearing the table after dinner. So, this was one of the many songs my Dad put on when stacking the dishwasher and I have to say it is quickly becoming one of my favourite songs.

2.     Crocodile Rock – Elton John

Recently I have been listening to more Elton John, and I never really quite knew how much I loved his songs. Like a lot of people, his songs were ones that I grew up listening to or hearing on the radio, but it is only now that I am starting to become more familiar with his music. I often watch YouTube videos of people’s favourite songs, and this happened to appear in one of the many videos I watched. It is really upbeat, and I love this song.

3.     Maggie May – Rod Stewart

This song is one that is always played at family get together and was often played growing up. However, recently I came across a video of Rod Stewart singing this acoustically and it made me love the song even more. A lot of the time, I prefer listening to acoustic versions of songs, so it was great to come across this recording. Having said that, any version of this song is good.

4.     Blinded By Your Grace, Pt. 2 (feat. MNEK) – Stormzy

My friend showed me this song months ago, and for some reason I never remembered to add it to my playlist, even though I absolutely love it. I like songs like this because you can tell the artists are really passionate about what they are singing. Following Stormzy’s appearance on the Brits, I remembered how much I loved this song, and so added it straight to my playlist.

5.     Ooh La La – Faces

Perhaps my favourite new find, I came across this on ‘James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke’ with Rod Stewart. I love this song, the instruments on it and the general sound are exactly what I like in a song, and this is very quickly becoming one of my favourite songs of all time!

6.     Get me Bodied (Extended Mix) – Beyoncé

On Sunday Morning, I woke up early so that I could watch Beyoncé’s Coachella performance. Anyone who watched it will know it was absolutely amazing, honestly one of the best performances I have ever watched – and to say I wasn’t even there and still found it amazing says something about Beyoncé. This was one of her later songs in the set, and Solange came on stage and danced with her. Since that performance I haven’t stopped listening to it – I love it!

7.     Rex Orange County

This is a very new find of mine. When driving home with one of my friends, she showed me his music and I absolutely loved it. When I got home I added lots of his music onto my playlist, and I can’t stop listening to his songs. I like them because they are songs that I am always in the mood to listen to. They are really chilled, and my favourites are; Happiness, Corduroy Dreams and Loving is Easy.

I think I’ll leave it there for today, I could ramble on about new songs I've been loving forever. What new music have you been loving recently, and do you have any recommendations that you think I’ll enjoy?
